Who creates collective memory? And how can communities reclaim histories that have been overlooked or excluded?This panel examines how cultural, artistic, and activist practices reshape the ways the past is collected, narrated, and shared.
What societies remember depends not only on the past itself, but on the cultural practices through which it is collected, narrated, and shared. Bringing together perspectives from archives, institutions, and artistic and activist practice, this panel explores how communities reclaim histories through collecting, storytelling, performance, and other forms of cultural production.
By foregrounding different cultural techniques and practices, the panel asks how new forms of cultural production can make absent histories visible, challenge established narratives, and expand the ways collective memory is created and shared.
