Lukas De Clerck

Lukas De Clerck is a Brussels-based musician, instrument maker, and researcher whose practice explores the sonic possibilities of the ancient aulos, a Greco-Roman double-reeded wind instrument that disappeared more than a millennium ago.
Through years of research into historical reconstruction, reed making, and performance, he has developed the Telescopic Aulos of Atlas, a contemporary reinterpretation of the instrument that investigates microtonality, psychoacoustics, and the materiality of sound. Rather than reconstructing the past, De Clerck uses the aulos as a speculative instrument to imagine new musical languages and modes of listening.
His work has been presented at festivals across Europe, including Rewire, Sonic Acts, BRDCST, Meakusma, Sonic Protest, Archipel Festival, and UH Fest. In 2024, he was selected for the SHAPE+ platform, recognising emerging and innovative artists working in experimental music and audiovisual art. The same year, he released his debut solo LP on Stephen O'Malley's label Ideologic Organ.
Alongside his solo practice, De Clerck collaborates with composers, musicians, and artists across disciplines. Recent collaborations include Diptych by Sarah Davachi, a work for viola and Telescopic Aulos commissioned by Sonic Acts and de Bijloke. Through performance, research, and instrument building, he continues to expand the contemporary possibilities of one of history's oldest musical instruments.
