Laura Cugusi is an artist, writer, researcher, and producer whose practice moves across artistic research, digital media, speculative design, and critical writing. Working between installation, moving image, publishing, and collaborative research, she investigates media ecologies, technological literacy, governance infrastructures, and the institutional narratives that shape collective imaginaries of the future.
Her interdisciplinary practice explores how emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, and digital infrastructures influence memory, perception, and political agency.
Cugusi's work has been presented internationally at venues and festivals including transmediale, the Venice Biennale, Manifesta, the Yogyakarta Biennale, Contemporary Image Collective Cairo, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Matadero Madrid, Dutch Design Week, and the Strelka Institute. She is a contributor and former visual editor of the research platform Weird Economies, where she explores the entanglements of finance, technology, ecology, and artistic speculation through essays, visual research, and editorial practice.
Originally trained in media theory, politics, sociology, and urban design, Cugusi has collaborated with artists, academic institutions, NGOs, and cultural organisations across Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East. Her recent projects—including Water Cybernetics and Everything is Computer—investigate how AI, game engines, and speculative world-building can challenge dominant technological narratives and imagine alternative futures.
