Stefan Fraunberger is a composer and artist whose practice unfolds across music, performance, and scientific research. Working with modified instruments, acoustic phenomena, and recycled sonic structures— including transformed church organs — he explores liminal states of transition between the acoustic and the synthetic, the historical and the speculative.
Through experimental compositions and performative installations, Fraunberger investigates how sound can generate new relationships between materiality, technology, and perception.
His work has been commissioned, performed, and exhibited internationally at institutions and festivals including CTM Festival Berlin, the Grand Palais Paris, Berghain Berlin, Musikprotokoll Graz, Donaufestival Krems, Meakusma, Irtijal Beirut, the Museum of Natural History Vienna, SHAPE+, and Workspacebrussels. His interdisciplinary practice brings together contemporary composition, scientific inquiry, and experimental performance in a wide range of artistic contexts.
Fraunberger's work embraces ambiguity, instability, and transformation as artistic methods. By connecting historical sound technologies with speculative approaches to composition, he develops immersive sonic environments that reflect on contemporary experiences of alienation while opening new perspectives on listening, memory, and the future.
