Jie-Hyun Lim is a global historian whose work examines the entangled histories and memories of Eastern Europe and East Asia. As Distinguished Professor and founder of the Critical Global Studies Institute at Sogang University, he has developed influential concepts such as victimhood nationalism and, more recently, the Global Easts as a framework for decentering Eurocentric approaches to history and memory.
From 2017 to 2024, he led the international research project Mnemonic Solidarity: Colonialism, War, and Genocide in the Global Memory Space. He also serves as series editor for Entangled Memories in the Global South (Palgrave Macmillan) and Global Easts (Central European University Press), contributing to debates on transnational memory, colonial legacies, and global historiography.
His recent publications include Victimhood Nationalism: History and Memory in a Global Age (Columbia University Press, 2025), Opfernationalismus: Erinnerung und Herrschaft in der postkolonialen Welt (Klaus Wagenbach, 2024), Global Easts: Remembering, Imagining, Practicing (Columbia University Press, 2022), and Mnemonic Solidarity: Global Interventions (co-edited with Eve Rosenhaft; Palgrave Macmillan, 2021).
