Javier Blanco is a Colombian choreographer, stage director, and interdisciplinary artist based in Berlin. Working across dance, performance, theatre, and artistic research, he develops collaborative projects that bring together choreography, science, and emerging technologies.
From a Latin American and intersectional perspective, his practice explores the relationships between body, memory, ecology, and social transformation, creating immersive performances that negotiate personal and collective histories through movement, space, and participation.
Blanco's work has been presented internationally in theatres, festivals, and public institutions across Europe and Latin America. Recent projects include the intergenerational community opera Utopia, produced by Colombia's National Centre for the Arts and the Goethe-Institut, the immersive performance Ithak@s, developed as his Master's project at HZT Berlin, and Oblivion (2025), created through the European S+T+ARTS Buen-TEK programme. Combining choreography with digital technologies, video, and participatory research, Oblivion investigates how embodied memory can be continuously reactivated through technological and performative processes.
Alongside his artistic practice, Blanco has collaborated extensively with Sasha Waltz & Guests, where he choreographed and taught for the Kindertanz Company, and has lectured in performance and choreography at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK). He is the founder of SUR Creación Escénica in Colombia and co-founder of The Edge, a Berlin-based collective developing interdisciplinary projects at the intersection of choreography, performance, visual art, and technology.
