Dania is a transnational sound artist, musician, curator, and emergency physician based in Barcelona. Born in Baghdad, her practice explores identity, displacement, borders, and the fractured experience of migration through long-form electroacoustic composition, field recordings, and the expressive potential of the human voice.
Moving between artistic production and medical practice, she investigates how sound can articulate memory, cultural belonging, and states of transition, creating immersive sonic environments shaped by personal and collective histories.
Shihab has performed internationally at festivals and venues including Sonic Acts, Sónar, MIRA, She Makes Noise, Café OTO, and silent green. Her music has been released on labels including Geographic North, Longform Editions, Ecstatic, Superpang, Somewhere Press, and OOH-sounds. In 2024, she was selected for the SHAPE+ platform for innovative music and interdisciplinary art, completed the Communities Between Islands residency across Sardinia, Corsica, and Syros, and developed projects exploring the relationship between sound, migration, and maritime borderlands.
Since 2014, Dania has directed the experimental platform Paralaxe Editions, which publishes experimental music and curates performances across Europe. Alongside her artistic practice, she continues to work as an emergency physician in remote Indigenous communities in Australia, an experience that informs her understanding of listening, care, and the body as sites of memory and political experience.
