Paolo Cirio

Paolo Cirio is a conceptual artist based between Italy and New York whose practice investigates the legal, political, and economic infrastructures of the information society. Working across installation, photography, video, public interventions, and networked media, he examines how systems of surveillance, artificial intelligence, finance, privacy, and intellectual property shape contemporary life.
Through acts of appropriation, exposure, and recontextualization, Cirio transforms digital infrastructures into artistic interventions that challenge dominant structures of power and invite public participation.
Cirio's work has been presented internationally at institutions including MAXXI Rome, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Ars Electronica, ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, Centre Pompidou, and numerous biennials, festivals, and public art programmes. His projects have received international recognition for their critical engagement with digital technologies, democracy, and information politics, and are held in major public and private collections.
Alongside his artistic practice, Cirio develops research into the social and political implications of emerging technologies through lectures, publications, and teaching. He is currently a Visiting Artist and Lecturer at Le Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains in France, where he continues to expand his interdisciplinary practice at the intersection of contemporary art, technology, activism, and critical media research.
