They Who Saw Nothing but Beauty is a series of Jacquard woven tapestries produced at TextielLab in Tilburg. The works gather and accumulate symbols drawn from Mesopotamian, southern Iraqi, Islamic and Shia visual traditions, layering figures, ornament and landscape into dense fields where the elements hold each other in place. The images are drawn pixel by pixel and then translated into weave, so that the grid of the loom and the grid of the screen become one surface. Rather than following a single narrative, the tapestries work through repetition, variation and accumulation, asking for slow looking and recognition instead of a linear reading.
